About Carbikly

Carbikly is a small piece of software for the people who have to work out what a company car costs in the United Kingdom: the employee offered a car or a cash allowance, the director putting a car through their own company, the fleet or payroll manager reporting the benefit each April. It has two halves. The worksheets are free and work HMRC's steps on the page from what you type: the benefit in kind from the P11D value, the CO2 band and the fuel, the tax the driver pays on it, the employer's Class 1A, the mileage at the advisory rates, and the car set against the allowance. Carbikly Pro is the fleet those figures come from: every car with its list price, band, fuel and dates, every driver with their rate, the figures worked each year and the reminders before 6 July and 22 July, exportable at any time.

Why this site exists

This site exists because the company car decision is made on a monthly figure the broker chose, the tax on it is discovered on the first payslip after the car arrives, and the P11D is assembled each June from a spreadsheet of list prices that nobody has checked against the V5C. The figures are simple arithmetic over a small record, a list price, a band, a fuel, a rate and some dates, and the record is one row per car per driver. Carbikly keeps that row and does that arithmetic, and nothing else.

Who it is for

The employee deciding between the car and the allowance, the director choosing what to put through the company, and the fleet or payroll manager at a UK employer with one car or a hundred who has to report the benefit and pay the Class 1A

Not a buyer of car finance, a lease or insurance, not a driver taxing a car with the DVLA, not an employer running payroll, not a director working out corporation tax or dividends, and not a taxpayer outside the United Kingdom

What it does not do

  • No advice on which car to take and no dealer or lease price: Carbikly works the tax on the car you enter and ranks nothing
  • No lease, finance or insurance quotes, and no referral fees from brokers, dealers or insurers
  • No payroll and no filing: it works the P11D figures and keeps them, and the form is filed by you, your payroll or your accountant
  • No tax advice: whether an arrangement is right for you, and what HMRC will accept on a disputed figure, are questions for your accountant or adviser

What is on this site

4 free tools, each working its figure on the page with no account, and Carbikly Pro that keeps the record. All tools · Pricing.

  • Company car tax calculator: The benefit in kind, the driver's tax and the employer's Class 1A from the P11D value, the CO2 band and the fuel type, HMRC's eight steps on the page.
  • Company car mileage rates calculator: The advisory fuel rate for the fuel and engine size, or the electricity rate for a company electric car, applied to the business miles.
  • Company car allowance calculator: The cash allowance after the driver's tax and National Insurance against the tax on the car, for the driver and for the employer.
  • Electric company car mileage rates calculator: The advisory electricity rates for a company electric car, home and public charging, and the approved rate for a driver's own electric car.

What Carbikly Pro keeps

The answers are free forever. Pro turns them into the fleet's own record: every car with its list price, CO2 band, fuel type and the dates it was available, every driver with their rate and their private-use payments, the benefit in kind and the Class 1A worked for each car each April, the 6 July and 22 July dates with reminders, and clean exports for payroll and the accountant.
