Each figure on this page is HMRC's own method applied to the inputs you typed, with the rate and the page it was read from cited beside it and the date it was read. Carbikly publishes no dealer price, no lease quote and no advice on which car to take: the worked example is there to be overwritten with your own list price and band, and the rates are gov.uk's on the date cited.

Your numbers

The figures above start from a worked example (£86). Change the list price, the band or the rate and the sheet reworks as you type, the way it will when the new rates land each April.

The Carbikly record signed in, on the Tax sheets & mileage tab, with a saved electric mileage claim opened: business miles charged at home and in public, the miles in a private electric car and the tier they fall in, with the claim at the electricity rates, the blended pence per mile and the approved mileage payment read off them, filed against the car
Pro kept the electric mileage claim with the home and public split it was made on, against the car and the driver.

Electric company car mileage rates are two different things depending on whose car it is. For a company electric car HMRC publishes advisory electricity rates, one for charging at home and a higher one for public charging, and an employer can pay a driver those rates for business miles, or a driver can repay private miles at them, with no tax arising. For a driver's own electric car the rate is the approved mileage allowance, the same 55p a mile for the first 10,000 business miles and 25p after that as for a petrol car, because the approved rate is a per-mile allowance for the whole cost of running the car and not a fuel rate. This worksheet works both: the business miles in a company electric car split between home and public charging, the blended pence per mile that comes to, and the approved mileage payment for a private electric car.

What a fleet manager asks before trusting the Electric company car mileage rates calculator

Can the employer install a charger at the driver's home? Yes, and where the car is a company car the cost of the charger and the electricity is not a taxable benefit. The exemption is for company cars; a charger for the driver's own electric car is treated differently, and that is one for the adviser.

Why is the approved rate for my own electric car not the electricity rate? Because the approved mileage allowance covers the whole cost of running the car, not only what it burns: depreciation, insurance, servicing and tyres as well as electricity. It is the same rate for every private car, whatever powers it.

Does Carbikly keep the home and public split? No: the sheet runs in your browser and nothing leaves it. Carbikly Pro keeps each claim against the car and the driver with the split it was made on, so the year's figure is there when the accountant asks how the electricity was reimbursed.
